How are Productivity and Change Related?

It seems to me that business growth comes from one thing: change. Change is everywhere, i’ts constant, and therefor a huge external influence on every business out there.

So how are productivity and change related?

If a business was productive last year, last quarter, last month, etc. does management need to look for ways to change to be more productive? What if the external environment is changing faster than a business operates, and more of the same is less productive, even though it used to be productive?
